NOW AND THEN

Poem 2

I titled it Now and then…what really inspired me to use this title is to show appreciation to our elders who were youth then I want people to know that youth day is not only about youth but about everyone who fought for us to be the youth we are today as free as we are.

Now and then

NOW AND THEN (16 JUNE)

Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu
That’s what happened to the Bantu education
Our “then youth” saved the generation
I look then I see youth boiled in tears
I look now I see youth free of fear
Now and then

Slaves of oppression dining pain
Being so brave for this generation
Scouting infinite succession of death
With pain and fear roaming at their doorstep
I look then I see HEROES
I look now I see HEROES

Many have lost lives
Many have lost hope
All have lost but trounced the whole battle by wisdom
For us to bounce freedom in our youth kingdom
For us to push pain inside the drain
And catch a train to sharpen our brains
For us to chase our choice of peace inside the classrooms

I look then I see streets floating in crimson blood
Setting footprints in the sand of pain
But now I see streets proctored by peace and harmony
Protected by love from all rays
Unlike the olden days
The golden days of youth
Free at last
16 June
